Are they really just a southern thing? My kids used to play under a magnolia at their great-great aunt's. They called it the money tree, because they used the fallen leaves as pretend money.

We have them here too, and you did a great job catching in each phase.
I love the lemonlike smell, too! The petals are soft and huge and the leaves are great playthings, as you say! Loved this southern series!
We had a neighbour in Richmond, British Columbia, that had one beside their driveway, so they can be pretty far north. I'd never seen on before and couldn't figure out what it was until it bloomed. So beautiful! They're one of my favorite flowering trees now.
